What is a Cargo Lift?

Cargo lifts are designed to primarily carry goods and passengers. Generally powerful and high-performance in nature, they tend to be larger in size when compared to regular passenger lifts.

They are mainly used for commercial and industrial purposes such as shopping malls and industrial parks, where heavy cargo transportation between floors occur frequently. As such, these lifts are constructed in a manner to handle such demanding rigors. Most cargo lifts come with manual operated doors and rugged interior finishes to withstand wear and tear from loading and unloading of goods.

General Features

General Building Restrictions/ Requirements

For Singapore:

1. For new lifts, a building plan for lift proposal has to be submitted to the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for approval, prior to commencement of installation.
2. Cargo lifts, whether hydraulic or traction, have to comply with Singapore Standard SS550:2009 – Code of Practice for Installation, Operation and Maintenance of Electric Passenger and Goods Lifts.
3. It is mandatory to appoint a BCA registered Lift Contractor/ BCA authorised examiner for lift inspection to obtain a valid Permit to Operate (PTO), which will be subjected to annual renewal.
